INTERSECT Services at PTCN are designed to support youth and families impacted by sexual abuse. Children, youth and adults who are at risk for or have engaged in sexual misconduct, reactive and/or abusive behaviors require specialized and direct interventions. The adult caregivers for these individuals need specialized supports and services to address the complex issues of risk management, behavior intervention, and working through the many challenging emotional and social impacts of problematic sexual behaviors. The majority of children and youth with at risk sexual behavior problems are at high risk of placement instability and disruption due to the complexity and impact of their behaviors.
INTERSECT is accessible at any point in the continuum of care with DHS-Child Welfare youth. They can be accessed at a CPS level of intervention, foster care, in a residential placement, incarceration, ILP, etc… anywhere along the continuum. These services are also designed to provide training and consultation to ancillary staff working with youth and families with sexual risk management needs. INTERSECT is designed to address where a youth and their Caregivers/Family are in their treatment needs, risk needs, and where they are at in the care continuum. Our services include: Assessment/Evaluation; Comprehensive Treatment Planning; Caregiver/Family Consultation and Training; Individual and Family Counseling; Individual and Group Developmental Counseling and Skills Training that can include Intensive Out-patient Services.
PASSAGES is a licensed Intellectual Developmental Disabilities residential placement program for adolescents and adults with sexually abusive behaviors that require 24 hour supervision and supports. Our adult homes consist of 3 residents for each home and our youth homes can range from 3-5 residents homes. Our clients receive specialized assessment and treatment services by licensed mental health professionals and credentialed by OHLA-SOTB for sexual offense specific treatment.
PREVENT is a new service available to children who have concerning sexual boundary issues, sexualized behaviors, or other conduct that, without intervention, may make them at risk of future sexual harming behaviors. The goal of the program is to provide early assessment, intervention and coaching to children and their caregivers to reduce and prevent escalation of these behaviors.
Services available:
Skills Training - PREVENT offers individualized, goal-focused Skills Training for children, which may work to increase communication, relationship, independent living, and community skills, as well as their pro-social behavior. They will work with the child on understanding healthy boundaries and communication and may offer education support as needed. They may provide some assessment as to the child’s developmental functioning regarding specific needs and lagging skills to determine appropriate goals for the service. Skills Training services may also be provided to the child’s caregiver, as needed, to assist them in providing ongoing support to the child.
Clinical Consultation & Training – PREVENT will work with the caregivers to identify the child’s strengths, needs, risk factors, coping skills, understanding of developmentally appropriate sexual behaviors, healthy boundaries, and trauma history. They will provide coaching, consultation, and training to the caregivers specific to the needs of the child around the topics of trauma, risk reduction, safety, and supervision. Consultation and training may also be provided to Child Welfare caseworkers, community partners and the child’s other team members as needed. These services may be provided virtually or in person.

Yes we do! Most parents or family support members are overwhelmed by the investigation, interviews, social service contacts, legal processes, and feelings surrounding sexual abuse impacts to their family. We do not provide legal advise but assist in helping youth and supporting adults through the process. You can call or email us for Consultation Services.
Residential Services are through a contract with DHS or IDD Services. Those programs are accessed through DHS caseworkers. INTERSECT is paid by private pay or DHS-Child Welfare for children involved with DHS. We do not bill insurance for our services. We do accept private pay and will provide service element billing codes as some clients have been able to have their insurance reimburse them for services.
In brief, a Psychosexual Assessment is process of clinical interviews and testing measures gathering information about an individual's psycho-social-sexual functioning as it relates to risk of engaging in repeated sexually abusive behaviors. We do provide those types of assessments.
The length of the treatment process is dependent on several factors: degree of risk to reoffend, individual/family's ability to engage in the process, additional mental health or behavior conditions, and measurable behavior change. We create comprehensive treatment plans that describe the treatment objectives and goals to be achieved so our clients and families know what they are working on and 90 day treatment reviews update them on progress towards achieving those goals.
We provide Virtual Services with the added caveat there are limitations to what Virtual Services can realistically provide. We have found that Virtual Caregiver-Family Consultation, Training, and Case management to be effective. Therapy (individual or group) are much less effective and with children it has no value and may de-value the process when transitioning to in person counseling. With older adolescents "brief therapy" or "check ins" has some value. These types of Virtual Sessions are best after they built on in person therapeutic relationships. Developmental Counseling and Skills training are not effective as the nature of the work requires in person tasks and processes.
